SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Levenshulme
Teaching Personnel is seeking a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Levenshulme. This is a full-time position starting immediately and continuing until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance.
Role Overview
This position is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The successful candidate will work closely with students who require additional support to engage with their education, develop coping strategies, and improve their overall well-being. You will play a key role in assisting with behaviour management, emotional support, and personalised learning plans within a mainstream secondary school environment.
Key Responsibilities:

Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs.

Assisting teachers in creating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

Helping students develop confidence, resilience, and positive coping mechanisms.

Implementing individual behaviour management strategies tailored to students' needs.

Supporting students with emotional regulation and conflict resolution techniques.

Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to provide tailored interventions.

Encouraging students to engage positively with their education and improve their social skills.

Assisting with de-escalation strategies and managing challenging behaviour effectively.

Providing students with a safe and structured environment to express their emotions and concerns.

Supporting students during breaks, lunchtimes, and extracurricular activities, where required.
Candidate Requirements:

A strong interest in supporting young people with SEMH needs.
-
Previous experience working with students with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs is desirable but not essential.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.

The ability to remain calm and proactive in challenging situations.
-
A good understanding of mental health and emotional well-being in young people.
-
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a school environment.
-
A background in psychology, education, youth work, counselling, or similar fields is beneficial.
Salary & Benefits:

Weekly pay between £419.25 - £500, depending on experience and responsibilities.
