The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting students with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom. Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and other specialists, you’ll provide tailored support that fosters both academic and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, adapting learning activities to meet individual needs
  • Promoting positive behaviour management strategies and helping students develop coping skills for emotional regulation
  • Assisting with lesson planning, classroom activities, and ensuring a safe, supportive learning environment
  • Collaborating with teachers, SEN staff, and other specialists to implement personalized education plans
  • Providing feedback and progress updates to teaching staff and parents as appropriate

Requirements

  • Experience working in SEMH settings or with students who have additional learning needs
  • Understanding of SEMH-related challenges and strategies to support young people effectively
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient and empathetic approach
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Flexibility, resilience, and a positive attitude toward ongoing development

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
