Teaching Personnel are recruiting for experienced community outreach workers for several roles at a Plymouth based Pupil Referral Unit.

Hours – Monday to Thursday 8:30am – 3:30pm & Friday 8:30am – 3:00pm

The unit provides educational support to several students dealing with social and emotional mental health (SEMH) on a 1:1 basis around the community. These students are referred to the unit and require additional support to continue their learning journey. The students have usually been removed from mainstream schools but are expected to continue with their studies with the aim of achieving GCSE's or equivalent qualifications, but this could just be getting back into mainstream education

  • Your role as an outreach worker will include:
  • Supporting the student to achieve both personal and educational goals.
  • Discuss options available to them when leaving education
  • Promete social and emotional awareness along with independence.
  • As an outreach worker you will be expected to:
  • Manage challenging behaviour in a proactive manner rather than a reactive manner.
  • Report and record any safeguarding concerns or behavioural challenges.
  • Support the individual to gain confidence within themselves.

Experience working in a PRU or young offenders’ environment and supporting young people who present challenging behaviours is essential as this is a very tough environment. You must be very resilient and be able to react positively and effective to difficult behaviour. You should have experience within a classroom setting and be able to build and maintain strong, professional relationships to ensure the progression of the student.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
