Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Stockport

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated ‘Good’ secondary school in Stockport. This is a full-time position starting immediately and continuing until the end of the academic year, with the potential for a permanent role based on performance.

Role Overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent psychology graduate who is interested in gaining practical experience in an educational setting. The role is particularly suited to individuals considering careers in educational psychology, teaching, mental health support, or special educational needs (SEN).

The successful candidate will work closely with students who require additional academic and pastoral support, assisting in both classroom learning and well-being interventions. You will play a key role in helping students develop confidence, resilience, and positive learning habits.

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing one-to-one and small group support to students who require additional assistance with their learning.

• Assisting teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons, ensuring all students can fully participate.

• Supporting students with special educational needs (SEN), including those with autism, ADHD, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.

• Helping students develop emotional regulation strategies and confidence in their learning abilities.

• Working closely with the SENCO and pastoral staff to implement individual learning plans (IEPs).

• Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teachers to help tailor lesson plans.

• Assisting with classroom behaviour management to create a supportive learning environment.

• Encouraging students to engage positively with their education and supporting their social and emotional well-being.

• Supporting students during breaks, lunchtimes, and extracurricular activities, when required.

Candidate Requirements:

• A degree in Psychology or a related field (2:2 or above preferred).

• A strong interest in education, mental health, and student development.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students.

• A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting students with diverse needs.

• The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a school environment.

• Previous experience working with young people (e.g., tutoring, mentoring, classroom support) is desirable but not essential.

Salary & Benefits:

• Weekly pay between £419.25 - £500, depending on experience and responsibilities.
