Job Advertisement: Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant

Teaching Personnel is delighted to offer a unique opportunity for a Psychology graduate to work as a Teaching Assistant at an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time position starts in March and continues until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent depending on performance.

About the Role:
As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students. This role is particularly well-suited for Psychology graduates interested in pursuing a career in education, child psychology, or related fields, as it offers invaluable hands-on experience working with young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students in both one-to-one and small-group settings, addressing academic and personal challenges.
  • Assist students with a range of needs, including those with special educational needs (SEN) or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.
  • Work closely with teachers to adapt lesson plans and resources to suit individual learning styles and abilities.
  • Support the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behavioral strategies.
  • Help students develop coping skills, confidence, and effective learning techniques.
  • Contribute to creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to staff and parents as required.
  • Assist in pastoral care, helping students with their personal development and well-being.
  • Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and staff training sessions.

This role provides an excellent opportunity to apply your knowledge of psychology in a practical setting and make a tangible difference in students’ lives.

What We’re Looking For:
The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a degree in Psychology or a related field.
  • Have a strong interest in working with young people and supporting their development.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Be empathetic, patient, and adaptable in meeting the diverse needs of students.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Be available full-time from March to the end of the academic year.

Previous experience working with children or young people is beneficial but not essential, as full training and support will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
