Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Levenshulme

Are you a recent Psychology graduate eager to gain experience in education? Teaching Personnel is offering a fantastic opportunity for a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a ‘Good’ Ofsted-rated secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time position begins in October and runs until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent based on performance.

  • Role: Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
  • Location: Levenshulme, Manchester
  • Start Date: October
  • Duration: Full-time, until the end of the academic year (with potential to become permanent)
  • Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week, depending on experience and qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to students, especially those with additional needs or those requiring emotional, social, and behavioural support. You will be working closely with the school’s pastoral team and teachers to ensure that students are supported both academically and emotionally. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students with emotional and behavioural difficulties, helping them overcome barriers to learning
  • Working one-on-one or with small groups of students who need extra academic or emotional support
  • Assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs), tailored to meet the needs of specific students
  • Helping to create a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging student engagement and participation
  • Providing classroom support to teachers, helping manage behaviour and ensuring that all students stay on task
  • Supporting students during unstructured times, such as break or lunchtime, to help them develop social skills and emotional resilience
  • Observing and reporting on student progress, offering feedback to teaching staff and pastoral teams
  • Assisting with interventions designed to improve students’ mental health and emotional well-being, including mentoring or counselling-style sessions
  • Supporting students with special educational needs, such as autism, ADHD, or anxiety, to help them manage school life more effectively

What We're Looking For:

  • A recent graduate with a degree in Psychology or a related field
  • An interest in educational psychology, mental health, or working with young people
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to supporting students with diverse needs
  • Previous experience working with young people or in a support role is desirable but not essential
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to get involved in all aspects of school life
