Behaviour Support Assistant – Full-Time Role in Chorlton-cum-Hardy
Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join a ‘Good’ Ofsted-rated secondary school in Chorlton-cum-Hardy. This full-time position begins in October and runs until the end of the academic year, with the potential for the role to become permanent depending on performance.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students who may face challenges with their behaviour, helping them stay engaged and make positive progress in their learning. You will work closely with students, teachers, and other support staff to promote a positive school experience.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-on-one and small group support for students displaying challenging behaviour, helping them manage emotions and engage effectively in lessons
- Working closely with the SENCo and pastoral team to develop strategies and interventions that address individual behavioural needs
- Supporting the development and implementation of behaviour support plans for students, helping them stay on track with their goals
- Helping to manage classroom behaviour, working alongside the teacher to maintain a positive and focused learning environment
- Assisting with conflict resolution and mediation between students to promote a respectful and inclusive school culture
- Providing mentoring and emotional support for students, helping them build resilience, self-esteem, and confidence
- Monitoring and tracking students’ progress, providing feedback to teachers and other staff to ensure they receive the necessary support
- Encouraging positive behaviour through reward systems and regular feedback to reinforce good conduct
- Supporting students during unstructured times such as breaks or lunch, offering guidance and maintaining a calm environment
- Liaising with parents and carers as required, providing updates on progress and behaviour management strategies
What We’re Looking For:
- A genuine interest in supporting students with behavioural difficulties and helping them overcome barriers to learning
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
- A patient, calm, and empathetic approach, with the ability to remain consistent and fair when managing challenging behaviour
- Previous experience working with young people in an educational or support setting is desirable but not essential
- An understanding of behaviour management strategies or a willingness to learn and apply them in the classroom
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team, contributing to the wider school community
