SEN Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Chorlton-cum-Hardy

Are you passionate about supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a ‘Good’ Ofsted-rated secondary school in Chorlton-cum-Hardy. This full-time role begins in October and will run until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of becoming permanent based on performance.

Position Details:

  • Role: SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Location: Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester
  • Start Date: October
  • Duration: Full-time, until the end of the academic year (potential for permanent placement)
  • Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week, depending on experience and qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide essential support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they receive the guidance necessary to thrive in a mainstream classroom environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities
  • Working one-on-one with individual students or in small groups to provide targeted academic and emotional support
  • Assisting the classroom teacher with lesson preparation and adapting resources to suit the needs of SEN students
  • Implementing strategies to help students with additional learning needs stay focused and engaged in lessons
  • Monitoring students' progress and providing regular feedback to teachers and the SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator)
  • Supporting students with their social and emotional development, helping them build confidence and coping skills
  • Encouraging students' independence and assisting them with tasks they may find challenging
  • Working with other support staff to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)
  • Assisting with classroom management and creating a positive, inclusive learning environment for all students
  • Providing support during unstructured times, such as breaks or lunchtimes, ensuring students feel safe and supported throughout the school day

What We’re Looking For:

  • A passion for working with students with special educational needs and a genuine desire to help them succeed
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and parents
  • A patient and empathetic approach, with the flexibility to adapt to students’ varying needs
  • Experience working with children or young people in a school or support role is highly desirable
  • Understanding of SEN-specific strategies or a willingness to learn and apply these in the classroom
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
