Start Date: 1st September 2025

Our client is excited to announce the opening for a dedicated Post 16 Lead Teacher, based at the Youth Zone in Salford. We encourage applications from individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from ethnically underrepresented groups.

As the Post 16 Lead Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality education to young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who are unable to access mainstream Post 16 education. The core responsibilities of the role include teaching English and Maths at Foundation GCSE level, as well as Occupational Studies with specific focus areas as required. This position presents an exciting opportunity for you to develop your teaching career, particularly in special educational needs, and make a significant difference to vulnerable and often underachieving students.

The ideal candidate will be a resilient, patient, and empathetic educator who thrives in a challenging environment and is passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate the delivery of educational programmes tailored to meet the needs of students with SEMH, working within a small, supportive team.

  • Teach Foundation-level English and Maths, and deliver Occupational Studies with appropriate subject specialism.

  • Provide support and guidance to Teaching Assistants, managing their contributions and ensuring they are fully integrated into the educational programmes.

  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies and build positive relationships with students to create a safe and nurturing learning environment.

  • Contribute to the school’s broader aims, collaborating with the SLT to improve outcomes and support students' personal development.

  • Ensure that all working practices are risk-assessed to maintain a safe and secure environment for students and staff.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).

  • A solid understanding of Foundation English and Maths, and a willingness to develop knowledge in Occupational Studies.

  • Knowledge of attachment theory, trauma responses, and an understanding of behaviour management in students with SEN, particularly SEMH.

  • Minimum of one year’s experience working in a classroom, with a focus on SEN students.

  • Strong behaviour management skills and a commitment to fostering positive relationships with students and colleagues.

  • A proactive approach to risk management and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students.

  • A clean driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance are required.

Our client is a forward-thinking school that values inclusivity and strives to remove barriers to education for all students. They are dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and they expect all staff to uphold this commitment.
