PMLD Teaching Assistant – Special Primary School – Skelmersdale

Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time, temporary-to-permanent
Location: Skelmersdale
Salary: £85 - £95 per day (dependent on experience)

Are you looking for a rewarding career change from care into education? We are recruiting for a PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) Teaching Assistant to support pupils aged 4–11 in a welcoming special primary school in Skelmersdale.

This role is ideal for someone with a background in care, support work, or health services who is passionate about making a difference in children’s lives. You will be part of a dedicated team that provides high levels of support, encouragement, and care to pupils with complex needs, including physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and severe learning difficulties.

The Role:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with PMLD

  • Assisting with personal care needs and therapy programmes

  • Supporting pupils’ communication and engagement through sensory approaches

  • Working closely with teaching staff and therapists to deliver tailored learning and care plans

  • Promoting independence and a positive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience in a care, support, or healthcare setting (no previous school experience necessary)

  • A nurturing, patient, and resilient attitude

  • Comfortable supporting with personal care and physical needs

  • Willing to learn and adapt to different communication and learning methods

  • Committed to the safeguarding and wellbeing of children

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
