About the Role

Teaching Personnel is seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join a well-respected secondary school in Stockport. This full-time role is to cover a long-term absence, starting after Easter. The school prides itself on delivering high standards of education within an inclusive and diverse learning environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and challenging English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, fostering a love of literature, language, and effective communication skills among students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons in accordance with the national curriculum.
  • Teach across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, ensuring lessons cater to different learning styles and abilities.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies to engage students and develop their literacy, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Assess student progress through regular marking, feedback, and reporting, ensuring that all students are supported in reaching their potential.
  • Create a stimulating classroom environment that promotes creativity, discussion, and a passion for English.
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the English department to share resources and best practices.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, parent evenings, and contribute to extracurricular activities such as creative writing clubs, school productions, or reading initiatives.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching English at Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for literature and language.
  • Effective classroom management skills with the ability to motivate and engage students.
  • A commitment to helping students develop strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to contribute to the wider school community and extracurricular activities.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
