ALN Teaching Assistant – Immediate Start 

Job Title: Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Teaching Assistant
Location: Newport, South Wales
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: From £13.75 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday | 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Contract Type: Full-time | Term-Time Only

Are you passionate about supporting children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN)?
Teaching Personnel is hiring a dedicated ALN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive partner school in Newport. This full-time role is based in a specialist Learning Resource Base (LRB) class that supports pupils with severe Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and behavioural challenges.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support a small class of pupils with ALN, focusing on emotional and academic development.

  • Provide 1:1 and group support for students with severe ASD and behavioural needs.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.

  • Create a nurturing, inclusive classroom environment that promotes safety and well-being.

  • Follow individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.

  • Uphold school safeguarding and child protection policies.


What We’re Looking For:

  • Resilient, patient, and compassionate individuals with a genuine interest in SEN/ALN education.

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs is preferred but not essential.

  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic classroom environment.


Essential Requirements:

  • EWC Registration (Education Workforce Council)

  • Enhanced Child-Only DBS (on the Update Service)

  • Two professional references covering the last 24 months

  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour and remain calm under pressure

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
