Job Advertisement: Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to support a secondary-aged male student in an alternative provision setting. This full-time role is ideal for someone who is passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of young people who have struggled in mainstream education.

The school provides a supportive environment for students who require extra help to stay engaged and motivated in their learning. The student may occasionally display challenging behaviour, and the right candidate will possess the resilience, empathy, and understanding needed to guide and support them effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the student to provide one-to-one support, both academically and emotionally.
  • Build strong, trustworthy bonds with the student to foster a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Encourage engagement in lessons and promote a love for learning.
  • Manage challenging behaviour in a calm and constructive manner.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop strategies that meet the student’s individual needs.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children who have struggled in mainstream education, ideally in an alternative provision or SEMH setting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build meaningful relationships.
  • Patience, resilience, and a calm approach to managing challenging behaviour.
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people to overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
  • Relevant qualifications or training in education or supporting children with additional needs are desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
