Youth Worker – Full-Time Opportunity in Levenshulme
Teaching Personnel is seeking a committed Youth Worker to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Levenshulme. This full-time position begins in December and extends to the end of the academic year, with the potential to become permanent based on performance. Weekly pay ranges from £419.25 to £500.
Role Overview:
The Youth Worker will play a key role in promoting positive relationships, supporting personal development, and engaging students in a supportive school environment. This role requires a proactive, empathetic approach to working with young people who may face barriers in their academic and personal lives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Mentorship and Engagement: Provide mentoring support to students on an individual and group basis, encouraging positive personal choices, social skills, and resilience.
- Behavioural and Emotional Support: Work closely with students needing additional guidance to help them develop coping strategies, confidence, and constructive ways to handle emotions and conflict.
- Collaboration with School Staff: Work alongside teaching staff, pastoral teams, and SEN coordinators to foster an inclusive school environment, ensuring each student’s needs are met.
- Building Positive Relationships: Establish rapport with students, helping them feel understood and valued, particularly those who may be experiencing personal or social challenges.
- Attendance and Engagement Monitoring: Track students’ attendance, engagement, and progress, providing feedback and collaborating with the school to ensure students receive well-rounded support.
- Assistance in School and Extracurricular Activities: Support students in various settings, from classrooms to extracurricular activities, offering them guidance, encouragement, and a reliable point of contact.
- Advocacy and Referrals: Act as an advocate for students, helping them access resources and services when needed, and ensuring that each young person is empowered and supported.
- Behaviour Management: Implement school-wide behaviour policies, applying de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies when required to maintain a safe, positive environment for all students.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Experience in Youth Support: Prior experience as a Youth Worker or in a similar role, especially within an educational or youth setting, is highly desirable.
- Strong Communication Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect effectively with young people, build trust, and engage them in meaningful ways.
- Empathetic and Patient: A compassionate approach with a high degree of patience, particularly when supporting students who may present with behavioural or emotional challenges.
- Adaptable and Resilient: Capable of responding calmly and effectively in a dynamic school environment, managing varied situations with flexibility.
- Team Player: Collaborative approach to working with staff, dedicated to maintaining a supportive, inclusive school atmosphere.
- Safeguarding Commitment: A proactive commitment to safeguarding, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students.
Position Details:
- Start Date: December
- Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday
- Pay: £419.25 - £500 per week
- Contract: Temporary until the end of the academic year, with the possibility of becoming permanent based on performance.
