Job description

Teaching Assistant opportunity in Winchester!

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 class in Winchester. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to provide tailored support for children with a range of needs, including [list types of needs, e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties, etc.].

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with individual children or small groups to support their learning needs.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Support children with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Help with classroom management and provide pastoral care.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff to plan and deliver suitable activities and interventions.
  • Monitor progress and report observations to the class teacher or SENCO.
  • Foster an inclusive and positive learning environment for all students.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children, ideally in a school setting (experience in SEN is a plus).
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting children with special educational needs.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Understanding of different SEN and strategies to support inclusive learning.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential.
  • A clear enhanced DBS check.
