Teaching Assistant
Job description
A school in Ellesmere port are looking for the ideal person to join their team, they are committed to providing exceptional education and care to secondary children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. They are seeking a compassionate and proactive Teaching Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for working with secondary children with SEMH needs and will play a crucial role in supporting our students’ educational and emotional development. This is a full-time position offering a rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the classroom teacher in delivering tailored educational activities and interventions.
- Work closely with students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups to provide targeted support.
- Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment, promoting engagement and participation.
- Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and other staff.
- Help manage classroom behaviour, using de-escalation techniques and promoting positive interactions.
- Collaborate with other staff, parents, and external agencies to support the holistic development of students.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with secondary children with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
- A compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to supporting students with complex needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Relevant qualifications in education or child development are advantageous but not essential.
The ideal teaching assistant would be somebody who can build strong bonds with the children to help guide them to achieve, they will be able to set great examples for students and help break down any barriers they have previously had with education.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
