What is the Future Teachers Programme?
This programme is designed for aspiring teachers who want to develop classroom confidence, gain insight into the profession, and build essential skills before embarking on a PGCE or other teacher training.
Your Role as a Future Teacher
As part of the programme, you’ll work as a Cover Supervisor in a Taunton secondary school, leading pre-set lessons in the absence of teachers. While you won’t be responsible for planning or marking, you’ll be expected to:
- Supervise students and manage classroom behaviour
- Ensure students remain engaged with lesson materials
- Gain hands-on experience in a school setting
Programme Benefits

- Monday – Friday schedule (8:30 AM – 3:30 PM)

During Your Placement, You Will:
- Observe lessons in your subject area and others to broaden your teaching knowledge
- Learn classroom differentiation and behaviour management techniques
- Support students with coursework and exam preparation
- Understand school policies and their importance in student development
- Maintain a journal documenting your experiences
Requirements:
- Degree – Essential
- GCSE English & Maths – Essential
- A-Levels – Desirable

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
