About The School:
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate and enthusiastic Teacher of Art for a specialist school in Basingstoke, Hampshire, committed to providing support for students aged 5-16 who have a primary diagnosis of autism, alongside other learning difficulties and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. Their goal is to offer a nurturing and inclusive environment that allows every student to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We are looking for a skilled and passionate candidate to join their team and deliver creative, engaging lessons to students with diverse learning needs.
The Role:
As an Art Teacher, you will have the opportunity to inspire and support students with autism, learning difficulties, and SEMH challenges, fostering their creativity and self-expression. You will plan and deliver art lessons that are both accessible and meaningful, helping students build their confidence and skills while encouraging a positive and inclusive approach to learning.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering creative and engaging art lessons tailored to the needs of students with autism, learning difficulties, and SEMH challenges.
- Supporting students in developing their artistic skills, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art.
- Creating an inclusive and supportive environment where students can express themselves through art, while also building their social and emotional skills.
- Assessing students' progress and providing constructive feedback to help them improve their creative abilities.
- Collaborating with colleagues and support staff to meet the individual needs of students and develop personalized learning plans.
- Encouraging and fostering a positive attitude toward the arts, promoting self-confidence and emotional well-being through creative expression.
About You:
We are looking for someone who is:
- A qualified Art Teacher with experience in teaching art to secondary and primary-age students.
- Passionate about the arts and enthusiastic about helping students with autism, learning difficulties, and SEMH challenges express themselves creatively.
- Experienced in differentiating lessons to support students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs.
- Able to create a calm and engaging classroom environment that promotes inclusivity, creativity, and emotional development.
- Skilled in using creative approaches to support the learning and development of students with autism and other learning difficulties.
- Patient, empathetic, and committed to providing a supportive and positive learning experience for all students.
Qualifications and Experience:
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience working with students who have autism, learning difficulties, and SEMH.
- Experience teaching art in a primary or secondary school setting.
- A current DBS check or willingness to obtain one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
