Student Support Mentor (Teaching Assistant Role)

Location: Stockport, Greater Manchester
Start Date: September 2025
Contract Type: Full-time or Part-time, Long-term
Salary: £90–£100 per day (dependent on experience)

Are you passionate about supporting students and helping them overcome barriers to learning? This exciting role offers you the opportunity to work closely with students, providing tailored support to ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to succeed. Join a welcoming secondary school in Stockport this September as a Student Support Mentor and make a lasting impact on students’ educational journeys.

As a Student Support Mentor, you’ll work alongside teachers to support students both in and out of the classroom. You’ll be responsible for working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and those who require extra support in their learning. This is a great role for psychology graduates, aspiring teachers, or anyone with a passion for working with young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to students with additional needs

  • Assist with behaviour management and classroom support during lessons

  • Support students with personal development and wellbeing

  • Help students access the curriculum by providing tailored resources

  • Encourage a positive attitude towards learning and school life

  • Support the wider school community in promoting inclusivity and wellbeing

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience of working with young people, ideally in an educational setting

  • Understanding of SEN and SEMH needs (training provided if necessary)

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students

  • A caring, patient, and proactive approach to supporting students

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
