Job Advertisement: Sports Coach – PRU, Knowsley

Are you a passionate and dedicated Sports Coach ready to make a difference in the lives of young people? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Sports Coach to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) based in Knowsley.

The PRU supports children who have faced challenges in mainstream education, resulting in exclusion. These students require a positive role model who can engage them in sports and physical activities, helping them build confidence, develop teamwork skills, and foster a love for learning through physical education.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in similar settings, understanding the unique challenges that may arise. They will possess the resilience, patience, and empathy needed to connect with students, build trust, and break down barriers to learning. A proven ability to form strong relationships with young people and inspire them to reach their potential is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and inclusive sports sessions tailored to the needs of students.
  • Promote teamwork, communication, and physical wellbeing through sports activities.
  • Support students in developing self-confidence, resilience, and positive attitudes.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to support students’ overall development and wellbeing.
  • Manage challenging behaviour effectively, creating a safe and supportive environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with young people, ideally in PRU or SEMH settings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A passion for sports and physical education, with the ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Resilience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Relevant qualifications in sports coaching or physical education are desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
