Sports Coach (SEMH School)

Position: Sports Coach.
Location: SEMH Specialist School, Preston.
Hours: Full-time.
Contract Type: Temporary.

Are you a passionate and energetic sports coach looking to inspire young people through physical activity? Do you have the patience, understanding, and commitment to work with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join Teaching Personnel.

As a Sports Coach, you will work closely with students, using sports and physical activity as tools to promote well-being, teamwork, and positive behaviour. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging, inclusive sports sessions that cater to a variety of abilities and needs.
  • Encouraging students to develop physical skills, confidence, and self-esteem through sport.
  • Supporting students with SEMH needs to participate in activities that promote teamwork and positive social interactions.
  • Implementing behaviour management strategies to maintain a safe and supportive environment.
  • Working alongside teachers and support staff to integrate sports and physical education into the wider school curriculum.
  • Organising school sports events, activities, and potentially leading extra-curricular clubs.

What we are looking for:

  • A relevant coaching qualification (e.g., Level 2 or above) in one or more sports.
  • Experience working with children and young people, preferably within an SEMH or SEN setting.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • A passion for promoting physical activity and its benefits for mental and emotional well-being.
  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to manage challenging behaviour in a calm and positive manner.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
