Exciting Opportunity for a Sports Coach and Teaching Assistant in Woolton

An exceptional primary school in the Woolton area has approached us to recruit a talented and versatile support assistant for a unique part-time position combining the roles of sports coach and teaching assistant. This individual will play a pivotal role in building strong relationships with pupils and fostering their academic and social development.

The school enjoys excellent transport links and has earned a stellar reputation for providing outstanding support to its pupils. The Headteacher is eager to introduce this new full-time position, specifically aimed at supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who require additional assistance. Details of the role are currently being finalised, as funding for the position has only recently been approved.

As the appointed support assistant, you will work between 25–32 hours per week, dividing your responsibilities between sports coaching and pastoral mentoring. Your role will involve providing tailored support, primarily on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, to children who face challenges integrating into mainstream education due to a variety of special educational needs.

A key focus of this role is developing pupils’ social skills and confidence through engaging sports activities. You will also be responsible for delivering high-quality PE sessions and organising sports activities during break and lunch times.

Initially, the role will be offered on a temporary basis through Teaching Personnel, with a start date set for February 2025. The school, rated GOOD by Ofsted, is renowned for its strong reputation and commitment to excellence. The Headteacher is approachable and ensures that new staff members receive comprehensive support and guidance throughout their induction period.

This is a truly rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students, particularly those facing additional challenges. The school is seeking candidates with prior experience in a primary school setting, ideally with exposure to both Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2). Applicants with relevant qualifications and/or experience in delivering sports programmes to young children will be given priority.
