Job Opportunity: Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) – Southampton

Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full-Time (Term Time Only)
Salary: £13.75 p/h

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join a vibrant and inclusive primary/secondary school in Southampton. You’ll be working closely with children who have a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH).

About the Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN.

  • Work closely with class teachers and SENCO to deliver tailored support plans.

  • Assist with personal care when required.

  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.

  • Support students in building confidence, communication, and independence.

About You:

  • Previous experience working with children with special needs is desirable but not essential.

  • Calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach to learning support.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • A positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to learn.

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, or equivalent) are a bonus, but not required.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
