SEN Teaching Assistant

A well-established specialist school situated in Portsmouth is currently seeking a committed and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join its experienced and welcoming team.
The school provides tailored education and care for students aged 11 to 19 with autism spectrum conditions, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and a range of associated learning difficulties. Staff are passionate about delivering individualised support, and the wider school community is one where students feel valued, safe and understood.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups, in and out of the classroom
- Assisting teachers with lesson preparation, classroom organisation, and pupil engagement
- Supporting pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social development
- Encouraging independence, self-esteem, and positive behaviour
- Helping to implement individual education plans and behaviour strategies
- Working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team including teachers, therapists and support staff
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Have experience supporting young people with SEN or SEMH needs
- Be patient, empathetic and calm under pressure
- Have strong communication skills and a team-focused approach
- Show resilience and flexibility to accommodate the changing needs of students
- Be committed to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of pupils
- Hold a valid Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or be willing to obtain one before starting (at own cost)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
