SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Oxford, UK
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

About the Academy:

They are a dedicated Special Educational Needs (SEN) academy in Oxford, committed to providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for children with diverse learning needs. The academy supports students with a range of SEN, including autism, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.

They are seeking a compassionate, patient, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role is crucial in providing tailored support to students, helping them to access the curriculum and develop both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting students with SEN on a one-to-one basis or in small groups to help them achieve their learning goals.

  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering tailored lessons and adapting materials to suit individual needs.

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

  • Supporting students with their emotional and social development, using strategies to help them build confidence and resilience.

  • Assisting with personal care, mobility, and sensory needs where necessary.

  • Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to the class teacher and SENCO.

  • Upholding safeguarding policies and ensuring the well-being of all students.

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience working in an academy or school setting, ideally supporting children with SEN.

  • A passionate and patient approach to working with children with additional needs.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to different situations and provide flexible support.

  • A team player with a proactive and positive attitude.

  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.

  • A relevant qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
