ASC Teaching Assistant – Altrincham (WA14)

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as an Alternative Support Class Teaching Assistant in a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Primary School. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing support and assistance to students with diverse learning needs, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. The ASC TA will work closely with the teaching staff, parents, and other professionals to ensure the best possible educational experience for students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Student Support:
    • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with special educational needs within the Alternative Support Class.
    • Assist in the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and personalised learning strategies.
    • Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere, promoting the social and emotional development of students.
  1. Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other support staff to implement effective teaching strategies.
    • Attend and actively participate in team meetings, contributing insights and observations regarding student progress and needs.
    • Work closely with external specialists and therapists involved in students' education plans.
  1. Resource Development and Adaptation:
    • Prepare and adapt teaching materials to meet the specific needs of students with SEN.
    • Assist in creating a sensory-friendly learning environment and implementing appropriate accommodations.
    • Support the integration of assistive technology and other resources to enhance learning experiences.
  1. Behaviour Management:
    • Implement behaviour management strategies consistently, in accordance with the school's policies.
    • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to address any behavioural challenges and develop proactive interventions.
  1. Parental Communication:
    • Maintain open and effective communication with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on student progress and achievements.
    • Collaborate with families to create a supportive home-school connection.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  1. Experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly in a primary school setting.
  2. Strong understanding of various learning disabilities, developmental disorders, and behavioural challenges.
  3. Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  5. Knowledge of inclusive teaching methods and a commitment to creating an accessible and supportive learning environment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
