Job Title: SEN Outreach Driver

Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and responsible SEN Outreach Driver to provide safe and reliable transport for primary-aged children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across Plymouth. In this rewarding role, you will be a key part of our team, supporting the daily outreach and transport services for children who require additional help with mobility or access to educational resources. Key Responsibilities:

  • Safe Transport: Provide a safe and comfortable journey for children with special needs to and from educational or therapy sessions, home visits, and community activities across Plymouth.
  • Assisting Children: Offer support in helping children get in and out of the vehicle, securing seatbelts and assistive devices such as wheelchairs or mobility aids.
  • Effective Communication: Liaise with schools, parents, carers, and other support staff to ensure smooth coordination and the well-being of the children during transportation.
  • Supportive Environment: Build positive and trusting relationships with the children, ensuring their comfort and emotional well-being during transit.
  • Maintain Records: Accurately log daily routes, mileage, and any incidents or concerns that may arise during transport.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure the assigned vehicle is well-maintained, clean, and compliant with safety regulations, performing basic checks such as oil, fuel, and tyre pressure as needed.
  • Adaptability: Be flexible in responding to changing transport needs, such as varying start times, different locations, or last-minute requests.

Requirements:

  • Full UK Driving Licence: Clean, valid, and eligible for driving in the UK. Experience driving in a professional capacity is preferred.
  • Experience with SEN: Previous experience working with children with SEN (in a school, care, or transport setting) is highly desirable.
  • Patience and Empathy: A calm, patient approach to working with children, especially those with complex physical, emotional, or sensory needs.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with children, families, and school staff, adapting your communication style as needed.
  • Enhanced DBS Check: Must be willing to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Desirable Skills:

  • Training in First Aid or Safeguarding.
  • Experience with specialised vehicles or transport for those with mobility challenges.
  • Knowledge of SEN conditions such as Autism, ADHD, or learning disabilities.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
