SEMH Teaching Assistant
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant with experience in working with children and/or adults who have Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs.
This role is working with KS2 children within a school based outside of central Southampton.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting students’ mental health, and assist with creating a nurturing learning environment. The TA will be working closely with staff and students in order to effectively assist and guide students through any challenges that they may have.
Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support sessions for students, focusing on coping strategies, emotional regulation, and self-care techniques.
- Assist in the development and implementation of education and healthcare plans for students with mental health concerns.
- Monitor students' progress and communicate effectively with teachers regarding this.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all relevant privacy and safeguarding laws and regulations.
- Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures at all times, and accurately report any concerns.
- Strong behaviour management.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or mental health setting. We will also consider those with experience supporting adults with similar needs.
- Strong understanding of mental health issues affecting students, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle crisis situations effectively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying informed about best practices in mental health support for students.
School staff will be working term time, from 08:30 – 15:30, Monday to Friday. All applicants will be subject to DBS checks and safeguarding children training.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
