Role Overview:

Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and experienced Science Teacher to join a well-respected secondary school in Cheadle, Stockport. This is a full-time maternity cover position starting in January. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a diverse, academically driven environment with a strong commitment to fostering student success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging and interactive Science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, aligned with the national curriculum. Lessons should be creative and designed to inspire curiosity, promote scientific thinking, and cater to varying abilities.
  • Assessment & Monitoring: Regularly assess students' progress using formative and summative assessments. Provide constructive feedback and use assessment data to inform lesson planning and to support student achievement.
  • Classroom Management: Create and maintain a positive and productive learning environment that encourages student participation and fosters respect for science and the learning process.
  • Differentiation: Tailor teaching strategies and resources to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including those with additional needs or those identified as gifted and talented.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the Science department to share resources, ideas, and teaching strategies. Contribute to department meetings and assist in curriculum planning.
  • Practical Lessons: Supervise and facilitate practical science lessons, ensuring all health and safety regulations are adhered to. Encourage hands-on learning experiences to enhance student understanding of scientific principles.
  • Exam Preparation: Prepare students for both internal assessments and external exams, ensuring they are well-equipped to achieve their full potential in science subjects.
  • Communication with Parents: Regularly update parents and carers on students' progress and areas for development. Establish strong home-school communication to support students’ learning.
  • Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in science education and contribute to continuous improvement within the department through professional growth and training opportunities.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics or related discipline).
  • Experience: Previous experience teaching Science at Key Stages 3 and 4, with a solid understanding of national curriculum requirements.
  • Skills: Strong classroom management skills, the ability to engage students in learning, and the use of innovative teaching methods to inspire student interest in science.
  • Passion for Teaching: A committed and enthusiastic educator with a passion for science, who is dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
