Join Our Team: Nursery/Reception Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting young children in their early years of education? We have an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant Primary School in the heart of Newport as they expand their nursery to accommodate rising 3-year-olds. This full-time (part-time also available) role is ideal for a patient, proactive, and nurturing individual who is dedicated to helping young learners thrive.

About the Role

As a Nursery/Reception Teaching Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Offering tailored support to children with social, emotional, and mental health needs in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Assisting in delivering an engaging and inclusive curriculum that builds confidence, resilience, and essential social skills.
  • Collaborating with the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalized learning plans for children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
  • Helping create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where every child feels valued and supported.
  • Assisting with the development of numeracy and language skills through daily activities.
  • Promoting positive behavior, emotional regulation, and well-being through structured interventions.
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils and parents, providing both social and emotional support.

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children in their earliest years of learning.
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and positivity, with the ability to develop strong, trusting relationships with young children.
  • Is a team player who can take initiative and work collaboratively to meet the needs of children.
  • Experience in early childhood education or working with children is highly valued, but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
