About the Role

Teaching Personnel is seeking an enthusiastic and committed German Teacher to join a thriving secondary school in Levenshulme, Manchester. This full-time position is available from after Easter to cover a long-term absence. The school is well-regarded for its inclusive ethos, high academic standards, and strong modern foreign languages (MFL) department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective German lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the possibility of Key Stage 5 teaching depending on experience. This role requires a teacher who can inspire students to develop their language skills while fostering an appreciation for German culture and communication.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality German lessons aligned with the national curriculum.

  • Teach a range of topics, including grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

  • Use innovative teaching methods to engage students and develop their confidence in speaking and understanding German.

  • Prepare students for GCSE examinations, providing clear guidance on exam techniques and assessment objectives.

  • Monitor and assess student progress, offering constructive feedback to support language development.

  • Adapt teaching strategies to cater to different learning styles and abilities, ensuring an inclusive classroom environment.

  • Encourage cultural awareness by incorporating elements of German history, traditions, and contemporary issues into lessons.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the MFL department to enhance curriculum planning and resource development.

  • Contribute to extra-curricular language-based activities such as language clubs, international exchange programs, or cultural events.

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and carers regarding progress and achievement.

  • Uphold the school’s values and commitment to fostering a passion for languages.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.

  • Experience teaching German at Key Stages 3 and 4 (experience with Key Stage 5 is desirable but not essential).

  • Strong subject knowledge of German language and culture.

  • A passion for teaching and the ability to inspire students to develop their language skills.

  • Excellent classroom management skills with the ability to engage and motivate students.

  • Strong communication and organisational skills.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
