General Teaching Assistant – Primary School in Thornton

Position: General Teaching Assistant
Location: Thornton
Key Stage: KS1
Start Date: Following February Half Term
Contract: Temporary to Permanent (via Teaching Personnel)

About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic General Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive primary school in Thornton. Working across Key Stage 1, you will play a vital role in fostering a positive learning environment, providing tailored support to pupils, and assisting the class teacher in delivering engaging lessons.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to start on a temporary basis, with the potential to transition into a permanent position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting children across KS1 to develop core skills, with a focus on phonics.
  • Assisting the class teacher with lesson preparation, delivery, and classroom management.
  • Providing one-to-one or small group support to pupils where needed.
  • Encouraging positive behavior and promoting an inclusive learning environment.
  • Helping to assess and monitor pupil progress, offering feedback and suggestions for improvement.

About You:
We are looking for a proactive and reliable individual who is passionate about education and supporting children’s growth. Ideal candidates will have:

  • A good understanding of phonics and how to support early literacy development.
  • Experience working with primary-aged children, preferably within a school setting.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working in a dynamic school environment.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in a teaching assistant or educational support role.
  • A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable but not essential).
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
