Teaching Personnel is recruiting enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisors to work in a variety of secondary schools in Portsmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, or experienced educators seeking flexible work and a rewarding role within education.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage classroom activities in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students remain engaged and follow the lesson plans provided.
  • Maintain a positive and focused learning environment by implementing behaviour management strategies where necessary.
  • Support students with any questions or tasks during the lesson, offering guidance and clarification when needed.
  • Liaise with teaching staff and heads of department to provide feedback on students’ progress and behaviour.
  • Ensure the health and safety of students at all times and handle any incidents in line with school policies.
  • Foster a supportive and respectful classroom atmosphere, encouraging students to participate and remain on task.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths. A degree is highly desirable, especially for graduates considering a career in teaching.
  • Previous experience working with young people, ideally in a school environment or similar setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage groups of students effectively.
  • Adaptability, patience, and resilience to deal with varied classroom situations.
  • An enhanced DBS check on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
