What is a Cover Supervisor?

A Cover Supervisor plays an essential role in secondary schools, supervising lessons when the regular teacher is absent. You will manage the classroom, ensure students stay on task with pre-set work, and maintain a positive learning environment. There’s no lesson planning or marking required, making it a perfect role for students balancing university studies with work.

As a Student Cover Supervisor, you will:

  • Supervise classes during teacher absences, keeping students focused on the work set
  • Ensure a calm and organised classroom environment
  • Develop confidence managing groups of students aged 11-16

Requirements:

  • Currently studying at university (preferably in Portsmouth, Southsea, or surrounding areas)
  • Experience working with young people is desirable but not essential

  • Flexibility to work during your free days or around your lecture schedule
  • An enhanced DBS check (or the willingness to apply for one)
