Primary SEN Behaviour Support Worker – Huddersfield (Supply)

Teaching Personnel is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Worker to join our team, working on a supply basis with primary-aged pupils in Huddersfield who are unable to access mainstream education.

Our partner schools and provisions cater to children aged 5–11 with a range of additional needs, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other complex learning needs. Many of the children you will work with have an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) and require a nurturing, individualised approach to their education and development.

In this role, you will support children in overcoming challenges to their learning, helping them build confidence and make progress in a safe and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with school staff to implement behaviour support plans tailored to the needs of individual pupils.
  • Provide one-to-one and small group interventions, focusing on emotional regulation, social skills, and self-confidence.
  • Assist pupils in engaging with their learning, promoting a positive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Support reintegration plans for children returning to school after prolonged absences or periods of disengagement.
  • Collaborate with SENCOs and teaching staff to deliver tailored support strategies that help pupils overcome barriers to education.
  • Promote a calm and structured learning environment while managing challenging behaviour effectively and compassionately.

About You:
We are seeking individuals with experience working with primary-aged children in an educational, care, or community setting. You will need to be patient, empathetic, and passionate about supporting young learners with complex needs.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children with SEN or SEMH needs in a primary setting.
  • A confident and proactive approach to managing behaviour.
  • Team Teach training (or a willingness to complete this training).
  • Flexibility to work across various schools and settings in Huddersfield.

If you’re ready to make a positive difference in the lives of children with additional needs, we’d love to hear from you. Contact the West Yorkshire SEN branch today to find out more.
