Behaviour Mentor (Classroom Based)
Teaching Personnel are recruiting enthusiastic Behaviour Mentors to work in Secondary schools across Newport and Cwmbran. We're looking for candidates with experience in, or passion for, supporting children with special educational needs, particularly those with behavioural needs.
About:
We are currently seeking several full-time, long-term behaviour mentors in the Newport area. We also offer flexible arrangements, including part-time and ad-hoc work to fit your schedule. We welcome applications from anyone interested in becoming a Behaviour Mentor—you can discuss your availability during the initial telephone interview.
Hours: You must be available 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday–Friday.
Start date: April 2025
Contract: Until the end of the academic year, however there will be an opportunity to join the school on a permanent basis from September 2025 pending a successful review in July.
We need Behaviour Mentors for both one-to-one and group support.
The salary varies as follows:
Hourly: £13.75–£16.93 / Daily: £89.38–£110
(Paid PAYE - Term Time Only)
In this role, you'll work with students aged 11-16, supporting various special educational needs including autism, global developmental delay, profound multiple learning disabilities, speech and language difficulties, and social emotional mental health needs. You'll collaborate with classroom teachers to enhance students' academic and social development, maintaining discipline while promoting positive behaviour.
Suitable candidates may have experience as:
– Qualified Teaching Assistant
– Probation officer
– Healthcare or support/social worker
– Graduate in Acting, Music, Performing Arts, or Psychology
– SEND Teaching Assistant/Learning Support Assistant
– Working with children (minimum 3 months)
– Sports Coach

Requirements:
- Right to work in the UK
- Recent child-based reference (if possible) and relevant DBS/Police checks (we'll help with DBS application)
Preferred candidates will have experience working with children in educational settings, such as nurseries, schools, SEND environments, or youth work.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
