Are you passionate about supporting students with autism and helping them thrive in a specialist educational setting? Teaching Personnel’s SEN team has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated 1:1 Support Assistant to work in a specialist SEN provision in Bolton. In this role, you will provide tailored, individualised support to a student with autism, focusing on their academic, emotional, and social development.

About the Role:

As a 1:1 SEN Support Assistant, you will work directly with a student who has autism and requires additional support to access the curriculum and manage their day-to-day activities within the college. Your role will involve helping the student overcome challenges and develop the skills needed to succeed academically and personally, all within a highly supportive, specialist environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 1:1 Student Support: Provide dedicated support to a student with autism, ensuring they can engage with their coursework and meet academic goals.
  • Adapted Learning: Implement tailored learning strategies based on the student's individual needs, promoting both academic and personal growth.
  • Emotional and Social Support: Offer consistent encouragement, helping the student navigate social situations, manage their emotions, and build confidence.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with SEN specialists, college staff, and external professionals to ensure the student’s personalised education plan (PEP) is implemented effectively.
  • Promoting Independence: Support the development of the student’s independence, both inside and outside the classroom, focusing on life skills and self-management.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in SEN Support: Previous experience supporting students with autism or other SEN, particularly in an education, healthcare, or social care setting desirable.
  • Empathetic and Patient: A caring, patient, and understanding approach to supporting students with autism, helping them work through challenges at their own pace.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with both the student and college staff, ensuring the student receives the right level of support.
  • Flexible and Adaptable: Willingness to adapt your approach to meet the evolving needs of the student and respond to any challenges that arise.
