Trainee Teaching Assistant

As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). Working closely with a dedicated team of Teaching Assistants, you will provide essential support both on a one-to-one basis and within small group settings in the school’s specialist ALN department.

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:30-15:30

Pay: Minimum £12.90 per hour

Start date: ASAP

Key Responsibilities:

1. Individual Support: Assist pupils with their learning by providing tailored support based on their specific needs. This may involve helping with their academic work, social skills development, or emotional well-being.
2. Group Facilitation: Work collaboratively with small groups of students, promoting engagement and interaction. Assist in the implementation of lesson plans and activities designed to enhance learning in a supportive environment.
3. Building Relationships: Establish trust-based relationships with pupils to ensure they feel secure and valued. Your calm, patient, and empathetic nature will be crucial in helping students feel comfortable seeking assistance.
4. Collaboration with Staff: Work closely with teachers and other members of the support team to share insights about individual pupil progress and challenges. This collaboration will ensure a holistic approach to each student’s education.
5. Creating a Positive Learning Atmosphere: Contribute to a nurturing classroom environment where all pupils feel included and motivated to learn. Promote positive behaviour and assist in managing classroom dynamics.
6. Record Keeping: Help track pupil progress and maintain records as required, ensuring that the information is used to adapt support strategies effectively.
7. Professional Development: Take advantage of learning opportunities within the school to enhance your understanding of educational practices, particularly in relation to ALN.

Experience:

Whilst experience working with children is desirable, it is not a requirement for a trainee teaching assistant as you will learn on the job! We welcome all candidates who have a passion for working with young people or have any personal experience dealing with children with special educational needs.

This role is particularly suited for individuals aspiring to pursue a career in education, as it offers invaluable hands-on experience in a classroom setting.
