Are you looking for a fulfilling yet challenging role in education? A secondary school in Portsmouth is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support their students' learning and development. This is an excellent opportunity to join a team committed to fostering a positive, inclusive, and aspirational environment for all learners.

 

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in helping students reach their full potential. You will:

  • Provide targeted support to students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups.
  • Assist with the teaching of:
    • Reading
    • Numeracy techniques
    • Literacy techniques
    • Behaviour modification techniques (emotional literacy)
  • Support the class teacher in implementing lesson plans and adapting them to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Encourage and motivate students to engage with their learning, fostering a positive attitude toward school.
  • Monitor student progress, providing feedback to the class teacher and contributing to the development of individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Help to create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that supports learning and personal growth.
  • Build trusting relationships with students to support their emotional and social development.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting Learning: Assist in delivering tailored support to students with varying needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum effectively.
  • Behaviour Management: Employ strategies to promote positive behaviour and help students develop emotional literacy skills.
  • Resource Preparation: Assist in preparing and organising materials to support teaching and learning.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the class teacher and other support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to supporting students.
  • Student Well-being: Act as a role model, providing encouragement and guidance to help students overcome challenges.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a genuine passion for working with young people and supporting their development.
  • Possess at least a basic level of skill in teaching reading, numeracy, literacy, and behaviour modification techniques.
  • Be adaptable, patient, and resilient, with the ability to respond to the needs of individual students.
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Be proactive in addressing challenges and supporting the school’s ethos of inclusivity and aspiration.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
