Phonics Support Assistant

Location: Blackburn

Position: Full-Time Phonics Support Assistant 

Hours: 8:45 AM – 3:15 PM, Monday to Friday 

Pay Rate: £12.90 per hour 

Are you passionate about helping young learners develop essential reading skills? Do you have a keen interest in supporting phonics education? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our dedicated team as a Phonics Support Assistant at a welcoming primary school in Blackburn.

Role Overview:

As a Phonics Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in fostering the phonics skills of young children, helping them build a strong foundation for reading and writing. Working closely with class teachers, you will provide targeted support to ensure students grasp key phonics concepts and progress confidently through their early literacy journey.

Key Responsibilities:

-          Provide one-on-one and small group support to help students develop phonics skills, including sound recognition, blending, and segmenting.

-          Assist teachers in delivering structured and engaging phonics lessons.

-          Monitor and assess students’ progress in phonics, offering feedback and adjusting support strategies to meet individual needs.

-          Create a positive and encouraging learning environment that fosters confidence and enthusiasm for reading and writing.

-          Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to ensure consistent and integrated phonics instruction across the curriculum.

Requirements:

-          Experience working with children, ideally within an educational setting.

-          A solid understanding of phonics and early literacy development.

-          Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage and motivate young learners.

-          Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards helping children succeed.

-          Relevant qualifications or experience in education, teaching assistance, or early childhood development are desirable.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
