About the Role:

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistants to join our team at a special school in Basingstoke, which caters to 128 students aged 5-16, all with a primary diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The role will involve working closely with students to support their academic, social, and emotional development in a structured, supportive environment.

Experience outside of a school setting, such as working in healthcare, childcare, social care, or with individuals with autism in other settings, could be highly beneficial, as these skills can be transferred to the classroom to support students effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group support for students with autism, assisting with learning and development.
  • Help with classroom management and maintaining a structured, safe, and nurturing environment.
  • Assist in the delivery of tailored educational plans and support students' personal, social, and emotional needs.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to monitor student progress and implement strategies to support academic success.
  • Help students develop social skills and engage in extracurricular activities when appropriate.
  • Provide emotional and behavioural support to students, using de-escalation techniques where necessary.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is desirable, but experience in other support roles (e.g., healthcare or social care) will also be considered.
  • A compassionate, patient, and understanding approach to working with children with autism.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • A DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
