Job description
Pay Rate: £12.90 per hour
Location: Accrington
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Contract: Temporary, Long-term basis
About the Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher and other school staff to provide tailored support for students with SEMH needs. Your role will be essential in helping students engage with their learning, manage their behaviour, and build confidence in a safe and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and group support to students with SEMH needs in both primary and secondary settings.
- Assist with managing classroom behaviour, ensuring a positive and productive learning environment.
- Help students access the curriculum and engage with academic tasks.
- Foster students’ emotional and social development through structured support and encouragement.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other professionals to deliver individualised support plans.
- Promote a calm, inclusive atmosphere that encourages participation and confidence.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational or support setting.
- A good understanding of SEMH and strategies for supporting students with these needs.
- Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students.
- Flexibility and initiative in supporting a variety of learning and behaviour needs.
- Ideally, a relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant), though experience and a passion for working with young people are highly valued.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
