Job Advert: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Accrington
Contract: Full-time (term-time only)
Salary: Dependent on experience
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team in a mainstream primary school in Accrington. This is a rewarding opportunity to work on a 1:1 basis with a Year 3 pupil with complex needs, including ADHD and ASD. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the child’s progress, safety, and well-being within a structured and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support for a Year 3 pupil with an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Implement and support a structured sensory timetable and provide frequent breaks when required.
- Foster engagement and enthusiasm in all tasks while maintaining a calm and encouraging presence.
- Prevent and diffuse dysregulation, following the pupil’s risk assessment and working closely with a specific team of staff members for additional support.
- Adapt activities and devise bespoke learning strategies to ensure the pupil’s needs are met effectively within the classroom and during bespoke sessions.
- Communicate and prepare the pupil for any changes to their routine, valuing their input and ideas.
About You:
We are looking for someone who is:
- Calm, enthusiastic, and patient, with the ability to build positive relationships with the child.
- Experienced in working with children with ASD, ADHD, and behavioural challenges.
- Knowledgeable and confident in implementing behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques.
- Passionate about inclusive education and able to adapt approaches to meet individual needs.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience in an SEN or TA role.
- Knowledge of implementing and supporting sensory and structured timetables.
- A strong understanding of the challenges faced by children with ASD and ADHD.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
