Teaching Assistant – Autism Specialist (Behavioural & Nurture Needs)

Location: Vale of Glamorgan- Secondary School 
Daily rate: £90-£95 (experience dependent)
Contract: Full-Time
Hours: Monday to Friday 08:15am-15:15pm (term time only)

Your Role as a Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with autism, challenging behaviour, and nurture needs.
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and SEN specialists to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs).
  • Offer one-to-one and small group interventions to enhance learning, social skills, and emotional regulation.
  • Use specialised communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, and sensory-based techniques.
  • Foster a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes independence and confidence.
  • Assist with personal care and sensory needs, ensuring pupil well-being.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Essential: Previous experience supporting children with autism and behavioural/nurture needs or personal experience that is transferable.
  • Desirable: SEN-related qualifications such as Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant certification.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management and therapeutic support strategies.
  • Patience, empathy, and resilience in working with pupils with additional needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and enhancing the educational experience of SEN pupils.
  • Able to work with pupils aged 11-16 years - secondary school age.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
