Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled teacher to provide tailored support for a young person with a strong interest in academic challenges, particularly in mathematics, alongside a need for structured physical activities. This role requires an individual who can create a dynamic and engaging learning environment while fostering independence and life skills.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that challenge and stretch mathematical ability, incorporating mental arithmetic, number partitioning, and problem-solving strategies.

  • Integrate structured physical activities, such as bat and ball games, to support regulation and engagement.

  • Provide clear explanations and reassurance to reduce anxiety related to changes in routine, visual impairment, and epilepsy.

  • Encourage independence in reading through assistive technologies, supporting access to both fiction and non-fiction texts.

  • Develop practical life skills, including personal care routines, meal preparation, social interactions, and independent navigation of familiar environments.

  • Support the development of confidence in using contactless payments and locating items in shops.

  • Ensure dignified and appropriate assistance with personal care and eating, adapting support as needed based on health requirements.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience working with students with additional needs, particularly in a post-16 setting.

  • Strong mathematical knowledge and the ability to design challenging and engaging activities.

  • The ability to provide structured and predictable routines while remaining adaptable to the individual’s needs.

  • A calm, patient, and attentive approach, ensuring full engagement and focus at all times.

  • An understanding of how to support independence in learning, communication, and daily life.

  • Experience using assistive technology to enhance access to learning materials.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
