Job Title: SEND Teaching Assistant
Location: Wakefield area
Contract Type: Full-Time/Part-Time/Fixed-Term/Permanent
Hours: 8:30am-15:30pm
Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across a range of Primary schools whom we work very closely with. The successful candidate will work closely with the SENDCo, class teachers, and other support staff to ensure all pupils can access the curriculum and reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support and small group interventions for pupils with SEND.
- Assist in implementing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
- Support children with learning difficulties, autism, ADHD, speech & language needs, and other additional needs.
- Adapt classroom resources and strategies to meet individual needs.
- Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment to promote children’s emotional well-being.
- Work closely with the class teacher to deliver tailored learning activities.
- Support pupils with personal care and social skills development, if required.
- Monitor and record progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
- Encourage positive behaviour in line with the school's behaviour policy.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience working with children with SEND in a school or childcare setting.
- Understanding of SEND strategies and interventions.
- Good literacy, numeracy, and communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team and build positive relationships.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children’s development.
Desirable:
- A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Training in Autism Awareness, Makaton, PECS, Team Teach, or Speech & Language interventions.
- Experience working in a primary school setting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
