Are you passionate about supporting children with special educational needs (SEN) and helping them reach their full potential? We are looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive and inclusive team starting in February 2025.

About Us:

At our school, we pride ourselves on providing a nurturing environment where every child, regardless of their needs or abilities, is valued and encouraged to thrive. We are a school that places inclusivity at the heart of everything we do. Our talented and caring staff work together to ensure that every child has the opportunity to succeed, and we’re looking for a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to support our pupils in their learning journey.

The Role:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who have a range of special educational needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties, and physical disabilities. You will assist the class teacher in delivering tailored support, both individually and in small groups, ensuring that all students are included, engaged, and making progress in their learning. You’ll play an essential role in helping to create a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment for all children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with SEN, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Support the class teacher in delivering differentiated lessons and activities.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual learning plans (ILPs) and behaviour support plans.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and social skills for children with SEN.
  • Help monitor and track student progress, providing feedback where necessary.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Work collaboratively with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff members to ensure the needs of students are met.
  • Support students during break times, lunch, and other school activities.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Previous experience supporting students with SEN (desirable but not essential).
  • A genuine passion for working with children with special educational needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a calm, flexible approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to engage and motivate children in their learning.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent) are desirable.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

What We Offer:

  • A supportive and inclusive school environment where staff are valued and encouraged to grow.
  • Professional development and training opportunities, including SEN-specific courses.
  • A welcoming team of staff who are passionate about making a difference in children’s lives.
  • A competitive salary and benefits package.
  • A focus on staff wellbeing and a good work-life balance.
  • Excellent transport links and a central location in Portsmouth.
