The Head Teacher of a primary SEN school in Plymouth, catering for children with autism, learning difficulties and behavioural difficulties is looking for an enthusiastic classroom-based Teaching Assistant to support small groups of pupils. The role is to start in September 2021 and is Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm and term time only. The role is currently temporary but has the potential to extend into a permanent contract.

This role would suit people with a teaching, sports coaching, support work or youth work background. If you are looking for a new role within SEN education, this could be the opportunity for you! Having the following qualities, experience or being open to carrying out the following duties would be beneficial for work at this school:

  • Previous experience of supporting children with autism in either a mainstream or SEN school
  • Willing to support 1:1 or small groups and provide personal care where necessary
  • Educated up to A levels or degree level
  • Training in PECS/ Makaton/BSL/Team Teach/MAPA
  • NVQ Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or similar
  • Calm and patient manner
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour

In order to work for Teaching Personnel and clear our vetting process, you must have a Child Workforce DBS subscribed to the Update Service. Full assistance will be provided should you need to apply for a new check, at a standard cost of GBP40, plus an annual subscription fee of GBP13 for the Update Service.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
