SEN Teaching Assistant (1:1 Autism Support)
Job description
Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with an excellent secondary school in their SEND provision in Newport. This is an exciting opportunity, starting ASAP, for a passionate SEND Teaching Assistant, who wants to make a difference supporting pupils ages 11-16 with additional learning needs.
Hours: 08:20 – 15:10 – Monday – Friday (Term time only)
Salary: £84 - £95 a day (dependant on experience)
Start date: ASAP
Contract until August 2025
The Role:
In this Teaching Assistant role you will work on a 1:1 basis with a child in KS3 with additional learning needs. You’ll be working alongside the classroom teacher, so excellent communication skills and teamwork will be required.

The school recently received an excellent Estyn inspection and strives to support every student in order to achieve their best. You will be joining a fantastic team of Teaching Assistants and have a supportive line manager and SLT team. The school has excellent links to public transport, e.g. there is a direct bus from Newport Friars Walk Bus Station, only 14 mins on the bus!
Requirements:
The school is ideally looking for someone who understands and has experience of working with special educational needs, with either children or adults with severe learning difficulties.
Experience supporting individuals with Autism is desirable for this position.
You’ll be supporting students alongside the classroom teacher to boost attainment and aid their development, both socially and in their education, alongside their EHCP. You will help in maintaining discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and encourage good practice.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
