Are you passionate about teaching and supporting young learners with complex emotional and behavioural needs?

Teaching Personnel is working with a lovely SEN Specialist school that is seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to teach and inspire Key Stage 1 pupils. Students in our client school face challenges such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, requiring tailored teaching, care, and support.

In this role, you will lead engaging and accessible lessons that meet the individual needs of pupils, fostering a nurturing and positive learning environment. You will also work closely with families and colleagues to develop personalised educational plans that support the holistic development of each child.

About You

You will have experience teaching young people with Behavioural, Emotional, and Social Difficulties (BESD) or ASD and a strong understanding of the KS1 curriculum. You’ll recognise the importance of pastoral care and have a thorough grasp of the developmental needs of young learners. A creative and flexible educator, you’ll inspire children to achieve their potential while working effectively as part of a supportive team. Your organisational skills and problem-solving abilities will make you an invaluable part of our teaching staff.

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with experience teaching at KS1 level.

  • Previous experience teaching pupils with autism, including those with non-verbal communication needs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively using tools such as Makaton, PECs (Picture Exchange Communication System), and PODD (Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display).

  • Proven experience managing and supporting pupils who display challenging behaviours, with a focus on understanding and addressing the underlying causes of these behaviours.

  • Creativity and adaptability in delivering lessons, using bespoke approaches to meet the needs of each child.

  • Familiarity with autism-specific strategies such as TEACCH, Attention Autism, and PODD, and the ability to integrate them into lessons.

  • A solid understanding of SEN teaching strategies and the ability to create an inclusive classroom environment.

What We Offer

  • A supportive and collaborative working environment.

  • Ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance your SEN teaching skills.

  • The chance to make a real and lasting difference in the lives of young learners.
